Videos for your amusement

I've been rummaging through you tube, watching some great middle distance races.
I think the more I watch, and the more I think about how fast a sub-4:00 mile is, the more I am amazed. My body doesnt even want to feel the pain of a mile that fast. If you want to be amazed, go to a track, run 200 meters in around 28 seconds, and then imagine trying to do that 8 times in a row. Or better yet, try to run 1 lap in under 56 seconds. good luck... in the words of Micah Strange to Wes Moulden ca. 1996, regarding the number 1,000,000... "You can't fathom that!"

How do you get the videos to post to the blog in that format?

I especially enjoyed the Steve Cram race. Those chaps were absolutely flying at the end of that race. I also nearly laughed out loud at the concept that they were "ignoring the pace" by only running the first split in :57. "A bit of a jog," I believe, is how one of them described it. Amazing. Simply amazing.

what would be really great is if we could have that british guy do the commentating for the beer mile... what would he say about fellas such as tigger and his puking, jackson's secretive south american training, or m-strange's consistency?
when you watch a youtube video on the you tube website, to the right of the video you will see Embed, and underneath this is a box with coding that usually starts with "object width ....... well, all you do is higlight this whole code, then right click it and copy it.. just like you were copying text from word or an internet page. Then, when you are writing a post, just paste it in to the text box, you dont need to press any fancy buttons on the post options like add photo or link or whatever else, just paste it directly in there.

If it's the same announcer from the Sebastian Coe Due Golden Mile, all he will do is introduce us 60 different times.

That actually might not be a bad idea....what if we had a beer mile program? All the runners with the pivotal stats...best mile time, best beer mile time, best beer moment, favorite beer, preferred running distance, height, weight, age, current residence, college, estimated likelihood of puking, etc. This could be quite the source of entertainment.

cram's crystal palace race (#4) is great, but the camera is not so much. one of the great things about live t&f (like the ncaa national championships i watched in austin in 2004) is the amazing change in speed. just like watching hockey live vs tv (for example) you see so much more simply by seeing so much more.

so, that last line was dumb, but the increase in speed on laps 2 and 3 in that race is amazing, but if you don't know what to look for it's hard to see. it almost looks like the rabbits slowed. what actually happens is the "technical" strategy of the race (as the announcer describes) ratchets up the drama as the runners ratchet up the pace.

i'll soon watch the rest, and sorry for my absence.
